Katherine Barrett, PhD

Former Research Associate

Dr Katherine Barrett worked with POLIS from September 2000 to August 2002 as a Post Doctoral Fellow with the SSHRC-funded MCRI Coasts Under Stress project. She collaborated on the SSHRC-funded Clayoquot Alliance for Research Education and Training project and helped to develop Community-University Connections. During this time, Katherine was also Project Director with the Science and Environmental Health Network (a US-based NGO) through which she published extensively on biotechnology policy and the precautionary principle. Katherine is a freelance writer and a freelance editor working through her company Literary Design. She is a columnist and co-editor for book reviews and author profiles with the magazine Literary Mama. From 2008 to 2012, she lived in Cape Town, South Africa and is now living in on the south shore of Nova Scotia. Katherine holds a BSc and MSc in Microbiology and a PhD in botany, environmental policy and applied Ethics from the University of British Columbia.
