Stephen R. Tyler, PhD

Dr. Stephen Tyler first joined the POLIS community as member of the Board of the Polis Foundation and has been associated with the POLIS Project since 2007. He contributes support and advice to POLIS in the area of collective resource rights and community management and is currently undertaking exploratory work with other Associates on the topic of Aboriginal water issues.

Dr Tyler runs Adaptive Resource Management Ltd, a consulting and research practice based in Victoria. He works with research institutions, international development agencies and various levels of government to improve integrated resource management and strengthen local livelihoods. Much of his recent work has related to climate change adaptation in B.C. and in Asia. He was the Team Leader for the International Development Research Centre’s Community-Based Natural Resource Management program in Asia, where he was responsible for a portfolio of over 75 long-term projects in 12 countries over a 7-year period. Stephen holds a PhD in City and Regional Planning from the University of California in Berkeley. He is editor of "Communities, Livelihoods and Natural Resources: Action Research and Policy Change in Asia" released in 2006 Book Flyer >>, and is a contributing author of "Creating Adaptive Policies: A Guide to Policy-Making in an Uncertain World" (Sage Publications 2009).
